Arrived in Australia with his parents in 1802 on board the "Coromandel".
1820 - Physical Description: Port Erringhi is a substantial house of the Old Colonial period set amid gardens on a rise close to the Hawkesbury River. Built of sandstone with a hipped roof of corrugated steel and virtually no eaves, the house and its garden were clearly once prominent in views from the river. A verandah runs along the east and north sides of the house.
The house has 6 over 6 pane double hung windows to the grund floor and 4 pane windows to the dormers. The dormers have a combination of hipped and gabled roofs, suggesting they have been constructed at different periods. Modifications and Dates: Additional wing 1890 Former Use: House
History Historical Notes: This land was promised to Ralph Turnbull in June 1811 by Governor Macquarie. Ralph Turnbull was the son of John Turnbull, one of the settlers of Ebenezer who arrived on the Coromandel in 1802.
The property was sold in July 1832 to satisfy a debt proved in a case in the Supreme Court brought by Samuel Terry against Turnbull. The advertisement for the sale stated that the land had a "large Stone house erected on it". The purchaser, John Terry Hughes sold the land to Ralph Turnbull, junior. When Ralph Turnbull, junior, mortgaged the land to Samuel Terry on 10 July 1832, the mortgage specifically mentioned the "Messuage or dwelling house thereon erected". Ralph Turnbull, junior was granted this land on 17 May 1838.
